2011 was a big year for Argonautic Ent and the Yacht Klub. With the small buzz we started near the end of 2010 with Kixxie Siete‘s hit single Future of Music with Robby, there was no hesitation for us to keep the momentum going. It was a bit of a slow start in the beginning with little knowledge of the direction we were taking this, but with the help of our growing fanbase and the support of all the Dirty locals, we were able to really get the ball rolling this year. Here’s a few photos to recap the highlights of the year.
The start (and end) of our “weekly” Off the Top Tuesdays series. We have decided to end the series but we will be back with something new for the new year.
The “7th” Sense is still one of my personal favorites from Kixxie Siete and also seems to be a fan favorite. This really helped get the ball rolling when it was featured on the popular college music blog, Good Music All Day. So, big shouts out to GMAD for helping us get some exposure (even though it seems that they don’t want to fuck with us anymore).
As a videographer, my first and biggest influence in making videos came from skateboarding. Even to this day I can spend all day just watching skate videos. Since I’m finally in the groove of making videos constantly and almost becoming a full time job for me, I finally got the chance to actually film some of the homies skating. Most of the footage I have collected have not been seen on the blog yet, but one of my goals for the new year is to film more skating. This is a picture from a session with the homie, Goldee. Follow this odd future faggot on twitter.
This year I was able to connect with the local skate shop and plan out some projects with the homie JJ. JJ is one of the nicest dudes I met all year and I’m looking forward to working more with him in 2012. Expect an official launch of their website next month and follow the shop on twitter for all the updates.
One of the biggest highlights of the year was the addition of Artie McCraft to the Yacht Klub. From his first 16 that he spit, I knew this kid was a diamond in the rough and its crazy not only how fast he has improved, but how willing he is to improve. Artie is only getting better so keep a red eye out for him in 2012.
When Kixxie came to me with the idea for the Enter the Swaggin’ series, I was hyped to get started without hesitation. Although the series isn’t ranking the highest with our fans when you look at the numbers, I think we were able to connect with our truer hip hop fans with this. I think this is our most creative work as a team and by far some of the funnest video shoots of the year.
Last year, our videos were averaging about 10,000 views. I don’t really like to look at numbers, but numbers don’t lie. Our videos are now hitting the 6 figures in numbers and its not that we feel accomplished yet, but the feeling of progression is only leading to more motivation. Kixxie’s collaboration track with April Nhem brought numbers in quick, hitting 100,000 views in exactly a month. This collabo seemed to be a fan favorite, and this is only the beginning. Look out for more of April Nhem in 2012.
Of course we have to run in to some kind of controversy at least once. You might have noticed a couple months ago that Youtube decided to take down a few of our videos due to trademark infringement relating to Artie’s old alias, Art Official. Even though we had already changed his “official” rap name, the “Art Official” music group must have seemed threatened enough to take it straight to youtube to handle the matter. Artie explains the situation in his entry for the Raise the Bar cypher (hosted by R Productions).
Speaking of R Productions, we can’t thank this kid enough for everything he has helped us with since day one. You should know by now that R Productions and Kixxie are currently working on the VII album. And yes, we know, we are lagging. But 2012 is the year, expect some good music and some surprise collaborations.
Thank you to everyone that has contributed to making this year big for Argonautic Ent and the Yacht Klub. We guarantee you big things are going to happen in 2012, but 2011 isn’t over yet. Expect something new tomorrow…
